New multimodal rail-sea route connects Taiwan, Wuhan and Duisburg

In April, a test container of goods loaded in Duisburg was transported to Wuhan on the China-Europe freight train. On 19 April, the container left Wuhan for the port of Keelung in Taiwan. The operator of the China-Europe (Wuhan) freight train, WAE Logistics, said that this link, which combines international rail freight, domestic rail and sea transport, marks the official opening of the Europe-Wuhan-Taiwan rail-sea multimodal route.

According to WAE Logistics, the goods were loaded in Duisburg, Germany, travelled through the China-Kazakhstan border crossing port of Alashankou, arrived in Wuhan and were shipped to Ningbo Port by domestic rail, and then arrived at Keelung Port by sea. According to WAE Logistics, the opening of the new multimodal transport route provides a new solution for transporting goods between Europe and Taiwan.

The total transit time from Duisburg to Keelung is expected to be 30 days, about 14 days shorter than the traditional sea transport. "It is faster with a stable transit time, it is more environmentally friendly and our customers' logistics costs can be effectively reduced," said WAE Logistics.
