The Austrian building materials producer receives blast furnace slag in Mobiler containers by rail from Linz to Hallein, followed by road delivery to Gartenau.

Leube Zement is using Rail Cargo Group’s Mobiler system to move raw materials by rail to its cement production site in Grödig/Gartenau, despite the plant having no industrial siding.

RCG transported around 50,000 tonnes of blast furnace slag for Leube in 2025. The company said the combined rail-road operation avoids about 2,000 truck journeys per year.

The transport chain uses Mobiler containers, which are transferred between wagon and truck by a hydraulic lifting device mounted on the road vehicle. This removes the need for crane handling or a private rail siding at the receiving site.

The system allows the cargo to remain in the same container between the rail and road legs. For Leube, the arrangement provides rail access for bulk raw materials without infrastructure investment at the cement plant.

Leube Zement is based in Grödig near Salzburg and produces cement, precast concrete elements and ready-mixed concrete. The company has operated for more than 185 years and uses the rail-road arrangement for inbound raw-material logistics at its Gartenau production site.
