The project will improve connections between Prague and other cities, with further enhancements planned at key stations.

The Railway Administration has started using two railway lines on the Branický Bridge in Prague, along with the section over Krč to the new Prague-Kačerov stop. Passenger trains will also benefit from the increased line capacity. The project is mostly funded by the EU and costs over EUR 106.6 million.

This section is mainly used for freight, but passenger services are expected to grow. Trains from Prague to Beroun and Plzeň will also use the newly reconstructed line. This is because Smíchov railway station is being renovated and the Výtoň Bridge is being rebuilt.

“The reconstruction of the Branický Bridge is another key railway project in the Prague area that will allow passengers to use trains more frequently. Rail transport is a clear example of the immense benefits of Czech membership in the EU, which we are celebrating this year. Modernized lines, station buildings, and new trains are making travel more comfortable for all of us. Thanks to extensive European investments, we are no longer a 'transport museum' but a modern part of the pan-European TEN-T transport network,” said Martin Svášek from the Representation of the European Commission in the Czech Republic.

"We have put the second track on the Branický Bridge into operation as scheduled. This followed the demolition of parts of the existing structure, the construction of a new deck, ledges, and insulation, followed by technological upgrades and rehabilitation of the reinforced concrete structure, based on the condition of its various parts. Thanks to smooth cooperation with the client and within the project team, we managed to complete and hand over the project on time despite the tight deadlines," said Aleš Gothard, Director and Chairman of the Board of Metrostav TBR.
